Welcome
The Healing Power of Nature: The History of Viavi
The use of nature’s herbs for healing dates back to prehistoric times, long before laboratories, computers, or formal medical training. Early humans relied on observation, experimentation, and the wisdom passed down through generations to understand the therapeutic properties of plants. Through centuries of trial and discovery—combining herbal remedies with practices such as prayer, music, and ritual—mankind uncovered nature’s profound ability to heal and sustain life.
Over time, plant-based medicine emerged as the most universal and enduring form of treatment, laying the foundation for many of the health practices we recognize today. The Viavi Company embraced this ancient wisdom more than a century ago, recognizing the incredible potential of herbal medicine. With a deep respect for nature’s remedies, Viavi built a product line rooted in botanical healing—one that continues to stand the test of time. Even in an age of modern medicine and technology, our formulas remain as relevant and effective as ever, bridging the past with the present to support health and well-being naturally.

About us
The Beginning of Viavi: A Legacy of Natural Healing
Founded in 1893 in San Francisco by Harland and Herbert Law, The Viavi Company was dedicated to women’s health, with its name—Viavi (vee-ah-vee)—meaning "The Way to Health." Rooted in herbal medicine, Viavi’s products, featuring Goldenseal, treated various ailments from skin conditions to respiratory infections.
By 1900, Viavi had over 140 offices worldwide and manufacturing plants in San Francisco and Canada. After World War II, the company changed hands before being acquired by William James, Sr., who merged Viavi’s remaining products with JaCo Distributors, ensuring its legacy endures today.
Viavi Today: A Legacy of Wellness
Now a family-run business, The Viavi Company is led by Wayne Vico and his daughters, Katherine and Lindsay, continuing its tradition of natural healing. Viavi Bitters and Cerate feature Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis) and Berberine, ingredients now being formally researched by the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Viavi’s supplier, Sleepy Hollow Farms of Georgia, plays a key role in this research, further validating the power of herbal medicine. Across the U.S., generations of loyal customers continue to share their success stories, keeping Viavi’s legacy alive.
